Michael Lombardi is a hard-working, compassionate and experienced entrepreneur with an extensive background in baseball and business.  As a father of three youth athletes himself, he cares deeply about the direction of youth sports and the body of parents and coaches bestowed as leaders within the space.

From the depths of Manhattan's largest indoor baseball & softball facility as Executive Director to founding The Sports Academy Group, a strategic partner for youth sports organizations, Michael's leadership, aligned with his dedication and efforts, successfully shapes young & promising organizations into accomplished teaching academies and cornerstones of the community.

A graduate of Georgetown University in 2004, Michael earned a degree from the McDonough School of Business. When not in the classroom, Michael led the Hoyas from behind the plate as a switch-hitting catcher for their Big East Conference baseball team. A four-year starter and team captain in both his junior and senior years, Michael was twice named team MVP (2002, 2004) and twice named to the Big-East All Conference Team (3rd team – 2002, 1st team – 2004.)

Following his successful collegiate baseball career, Michael signed a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, playing professionally with the Phillies for three seasons before joining the Baseball Operations department of the New York Mets, working hand in hand with then General Manager Omar Minaya preparing game reports, minor league statistical analysis, and facilitating the daily workings of a Major League Baseball Club during the 2007 Championship season.

​Looking for a greater entrepreneurial challenge, one that would mesh his love for the game of baseball with his management background, Michael jumped at the opportunity to lead the staff at The Baseball Center NYC in March of 2009.  Hired as Head Baseball Instructor, Michael quickly advanced to lead the overall business operation and entire facility as Executive Director in July of 2011. ​

Specifically, Michael was responsible for The Baseball Center’s key strategic planning, program creation, curriculum building, operations/budget management, staff performance and professional development. He also communicated and directed The Baseball Center’s mission and business strategy including all marketing, advertising, branding, social media and website integration.​

 

Most importantly, Michael built strong and effective relationships with all key team members of The Baseball Center, including owners, advisors, staff members, clients and families. Through these relationships and his facilitation of The Baseball Center’s wide range of after-school and junior slugger programs, birthday parties, outdoor leagues, travel teams, corporate events, charitable fundraisers and more, Michael shaped the growth and development of countless players season after season. Paralleling the growth of his players, the advancement of the business also flourished during Michael’s tenure, with significant increased revenues and net operating profits. 

​Shortly after moving from NYC to the suburban landscape of Connecticut, Michael looked for a new entrepreneurial challenge to continue his work with today’s youth and build his own brand of baseball.  In 2018, Michael founded The Sports Academy Group, a strategic partner for Youth Sports organizations and Indoor & Outdoor Training Academies, because he cares deeply about the direction of youth sports and the people bestowed as leaders within the space. 

Currently, under the umbrella of The Sports Academy Group, Michael also directs a Travel Baseball Program entitled “Fairfield County United” and a Rookie Ball Program for younger players ages 4-7.

Michael is married to an accomplished educator, writer, and entrepreneur, and resides with their three children in CT.

Jessica's career in education has achieved an enormous level of success, spanning the better course of the last twenty years. She joins The Sports Academy Group as President, with the highest education responsibilities under her careful supervision and tutelage.

 

Jessica is dedicated and passionate about helping students in grades 6 through college freshmen develop winning study skills to achieve their full potential.

Her philosophy in teaching and inspiring students is the result of a steady, efficient, and productive process.  When studying for an exam or preparing for a project, Jess empowers our athletes to utilize key organizational strategies and structures to map out their plan down to the most integral details. Her system values time management and helps students navigate their workload around extra-curricular activities, sports, jobs, and more.

 

Further, Jessica’s process offers our student-athletes multiple tactics and techniques to aid in personal note taking, summarization, and even memorization. She recognizes each student as a unique learner and supports individualized learning through appropriate differentiation and one-on-one tutoring. Students are continually given the tools to succeed and offered an incredible support system to sustain personal growth and development.

Above all – Jess teaches to inspire; she teaches to instill the vast value of development into her students lives and make their educational experiences both moving and meaningful. And as a passionate and dedicated teacher, she continually explores the dual power of practice and pedagogy to grow as an enlightened educator as time evolves.

Jessica Cotter graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Sociology. She also earned a Master of Arts in English Education from Columbia University, Teachers College. She now resides with her family in CT.
